Gartner Says iPhone is the largest Smartphone Brand
According to Gartner’s latest report, Apple has overtaken Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone brand due to high demand and sales of the iPhone 12 series.
According to the report, Apple has managed to sell 80 million smartphones in the global market in the last quarter. That number is higher than any other smartphone brand. Another thing to note is that this is the first time since 2016 that Apple has managed to sell more smartphones than Samsung.
iPhone sales rose 14.9 percent in the quarter. Sales of Samsung’s smartphones fell 11.8 percent in the same period.
Apple has surpassed the milestone of selling a total of 80 million iPhones due to the high sales rates of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11, even though Apple has launched only certain models of iPhones compared to Samsung, which brings a wide range of smartphones to the market.
According to Gartner, double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of 2020 was due to the launch of the iPhone 12, the first Five G iPhone.
Despite falling to second place in the fourth quarter of 2020, Samsung remains in first place in terms of overall sales for the year 2020. According to the report, last year Samsung had to compete with Chinese smartphone brands including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.
Which are the top five smartphone brands?
Overall, Samsung’s smartphone sales fell 14.6 percent in 2020. Only Apple and Xiaomi are among the top five smartphone brands that have managed to achieve positive growth this year. In 2020, sales of Apple’s iPhone grew at an overall annual rate of 3.3 percent.
According to Gartner, global smartphone sales fell 5.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020. However, the overall year-on-year decline was 12.5 percent.
According to the report, the market’s decline in the fourth quarter was offset by higher sales of 5G smartphones and cheaper and mid-priced smartphones.
